Imamat Ismaili gives 250 mil euros to fight Covid-19

Imamat Ismaili will contribute 250 mil euros to the ‘Global response to COVID19 – Donor Conference’, promoted by the European Commission and aimed at accelerating the development of vaccine and treatments for the disease, the institution announced today.

The institution said, in a note, that Imamat Ismaili, an institution led by Aga Khan, “responded to the Portuguese government’s appeal and will contribute 250,000 euros to the ‘Global Response to covid-19′”. The initiative will be presented publicly this morning at the online donor conference organized by the European Commission. Portugal joins this initiative. The Prime Minister, António Costa, will also announce today at the conference the Portuguese public and private contribution within the scope of the “Global response to covid-19 – donors conference”.
António Costa will be at 10:00 am, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, in this initiative that “aims to bring together the efforts of governments, businessmen, foundations and citizens of the European Union to collect 7.5 billion euros”. These 7.5 billion euros, according to the European Commission, are intended “to accelerate the development, production and equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics and treatments” of covid-19.
In a statement, the Portuguese Government states that, “in addition to a significant financial contribution, bringing together the public and private sectors, national research and development centers and the pharmaceutical industry are prepared to integrate international partnerships in the three areas covered by the initiative”. As part of this “Global Response” initiative, partnerships will take place in three phases: “research, production and distribution”.
Also according to the executive, “there were many” national institutions and companies that joined this movement, especially “Sociedade Francisco Manuel do Santos, Jerónimo Martins, EDP, EPAL, Apifarma, National Pharmacy Association, Banco Santander Totta, BPI, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Millennium BCP and Novo Banco “.
