[News] President has Taken Notice of Media Calls on Gilgit-Skardo Road Project

Shoib (Islamabad): The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah has stated that the president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has called on an important meeting on October 22, 2012 in Islamabad. The meeting will be attended by Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah, Federal Minister for Communication Arbab Alamgir, Federal Finance Minister and Chairman National Highways Authority (NHA). It is expected that important and meaningful actions will be taken.
Talking to the media Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah has said that the meeting will have only one agenda point of starting construction work on Gilgit-Skardu Road project immediately. He further said that there is no need to re tender the matter. The point of Federal Minister and Secretary Communication to refer it for retender is only an excuse to put the project in the cold storage. On this highly important and crucial matter we have no other alternatives than to start construction work immediately.
On the issue Muhammad Jaffer has stated that people of Gilgit-Baltistan could not tolerate any kind of injustice on this matter. If anybody will try by any means to cancel or derail the project it will be considered animosity with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. We will not leave Islamabad unless the project is been approved and steps are taken to start the construction work.
There is no need to re tender the matter.

Various political parties and people belonging to all walks of life in Gilgit-Baltistan are highly concerned about the act of federal government of PPP to cancel the Giglit-Skardu road project. They all are taking protest rallies and preparation are made to take huge rallies during the visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to Gilgit-Baltistan on November 1, 2012 on the occasion of Independence day of Gilgit-Baltistan. In the protest the members of PPP are also include and it will be a huge setback for the PPP government.
