From Aly Shafa: The forest department of GB is one of the most corrupt department in GB . officers of this department are just getting salaries and benefits without duties, all kind of fundings from international donor agencies are just wasted on non-development expenditures no single tree planted for years.
I am working with this department for more than 9 years in the Roundu area, with Hamaliay Green Society Gilgit Baltistan, no such alternatives to protect forest or wildlife have been initiated. I have personally visited DFO office many times with plans to save forest and how to grow manmade forest through nurseries but of no use. Every year federal ministry of environment and other organizations are allocating funds for manmade forest (Nurseries) unfortunately these forest official just waste the money on their non productive activities. In the 64 years of the history of Gilgit-Baltistan there has not been any forest development plan has been undertaken particularly in Baltistan.
I visited all most all the big forests. The department of forest is involved in deforestation and do not pay any heed to the plight of the people living in the forests areas who are working as volunteers to protect forest. In Roundu Bilamik forest is finished by the employees of forest department with timber and officers of forest department are part of heinous Timber Mafia. People of the area are now not even getting fire wood, once it was among the big forest of GB, the same situation is going on with the Maliyaar-TaluBrouq Forest, and Ganji forest
