Gilgit (Monitoring Desk): According to the local police officials of Manshera, Khyber Pakhtun Khowa on Babusar Road, near Lolosar Lake, unidentified terrorist belonging to Tehrik Taliban Pakistan have killed at least 19 people of Gilgit-Baltistan. However the number of people killed is quoted as 25 by IGP, Gilgit-Baltistan. This is the second time in a span of three months that in the Pakistani territory of Khyber Pakhtun Khowa, armed terrorist of Taliban killed 43 people from Gilgit-Baltistan on the basis of sectarian affiliations.
According to the police and reliable sources people killed were travelling from Rawalpindi in public transport to Gilgit to celebrate the sacred days of Eid. The spokesperson of Tehrik Taliban Darah Adam Khail has accepted the responsibility for this attack. He further said the planning for this attack was carried out by Al-Mansureen Group and the head of the group Tariq Mansur himself was leading this assassination.
Tehrik Taliban have been attacking people of Gilgit-Baltistan since 1980s under the umbrella of the Govt. of Zia-ul-Haq and Taliban and Al-Qaida affiliates having links with agencies of government of Pakistan. Majority of the killings are against Shite Muslims. This time as well, according to eyewitnesses, the terrorists have checked the National Identity Cards (NICs) of the passenger and separated the Shia Muslims and made them stand in line to be shot with automatic weapons.
The killers have taken money and identity cards of the victims. The dead bodies are being shifted to Manshera District Hospital in KPK. According the eyewitnesses the killers were in the army uniform and highly trained. According to the police chief of Manshera, when he received the news that the dead bodies are on the road, we have collected them and will be sent for postpartum for identification of the victims.
After the incident of 28 February, 2012 when 18 passenger from Gilgit-Baltistan were killed in Kohistan the Govt. of Pakistan and Gilgit-Baltistan agreed to provide foolproof security to the vehicles travelling from Pakistani territories to Gilgit-Baltistan, however, due to the hurdles created by Pakistani administration the agreement is not yet been implemented.
The spot of incident is 14 KM away from Manshera city, the killers have said to be riding vehicles and were loaded with heavy weaponry. This raises many questions, as how the terrorist managed to escape police and other law enforcement agencies? Why there is not any hunt for the arrest of killers. How it is possible that the terrorist claim the responsibility on mobile phones and they could not be intercepted attacked or arrested?
The situation in Gilgit-Baltistan is highly tense, after Juma prayers rallies are arranged in Giglit, Skardu and Astore.
