The First Women DSP of Gilgit-Baltistan Ms. Tahira Yasuf Suspended

The first women DSP Tahira Yasuf from Gilgit-Baltistan has been suspended off her duties for inviting a controversial diplomatic delegation of US Embassy Pakistan to her residence in Giglit. The news of controversy over the US diplomatic mission to Gilgit-Baltistan is almost two months back and notably a meal at the personal residence of DSP Tahira Yasuf. In a clinching way, day before, the IG of Gilgit-Baltistan notified Tahira of her suspension from performing duties as DSP. IG has further stated that an investigation team has been setup to examine and investigate the details of conversations occurred at her residence with US diplomatic mission.  It is to be remembered that in the past Tahira is considered to be a very punctual, competent, honest and brave women police officer even leaving behind her male counterparts.

The controversial visit of UD diplomatic mission to Gilgit-Baltistan, where it has several meetings with a range of stakeholders including Govt. Officials, members of GB Assembly, Nationalists and Religious representatives had casted many doubts about the intentions behind the major drive of contextual face to face meeting at the back drop of recent violence in Gilgit-Baltistan. Media has reported that the US delegates even have very assertively asked splinter groups of nationalists and members of GB Assembly “tell us what you want about the status of Gilglit-Baltistan and what we can do for you?”

Remember that Gilgit-Baltistan is considered to be the battle ground of the New Great Game (NGG) of the world powers including India, Pakistan, China, USA, EU, and Russia. China is a favour it in the masses, however, they equally like USA and EU individualistically but they don’t trust USA in its fairness at the level of political and state level engagements.  China’s future of rapid prosperity depends highly on secure route through Giglit-Baltistan to reach Gawarder Sea Port, to boat into Arabian Sea and ultimately to reach the world market. Of course, US and EU is not happy with it. That is why many observers, politicians, intellectuals and people of Gilgit-Baltistan feel that creating instability and insecurity on the route of KKH that starts and passes through Giglgit-Baltistan is in the interest of many world powers, but that costs economic and social impairments to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Tahira Yasuf is suspended as it could be possible for being a civil servant. The Finance Minister GB Cabinet, Muhammad Akhter is also considered to be cornered in this connection, who was the most prominent minister to meet the said US delegation and CM had refused to meet. But later on the visit of US ambassador Cameron Munter , CM Mehdi Shah had met too.

On the basis of these well debated topics of public concern people of Gilgit-Baltistan and Government of Gilgit-Baltistan suspects international hidden hands as one of the reasons behind sectarian clashes.

I wonder why this news came after more then two months of the so called invitation??? I was present in the said meeting where we just offered a cup of tea in the good gesture of hospitality in the presence of so many govt officials and so called guardians of the state. I would have been so pleased to see this inquiry in Hussain Asghar’s (former IGP GB) time. Where were these people in his time? Why this inquiry was not launched in Hussain Asghar’s time? Why people in GB are so vulnerable to even meet some officials of another country?? It is shame to mislead people by saying ambassador; they were simply lower ranked embassy officials. Tahira being a responsible police officer, would never compromise on any national interest or state interest, rather she is always a brave leader to guard it. Tahira being the proud sister of two Army officers including Shaheed Major Misbah (SSG). Please friends, try to understand the so called conspiracy theories to demoralize the people of GB.. we will not have any problem from anywhere provided we are united and face such pre-initiated theories.

    • Dear Sami Ullah,

Let us be clear that the opinions expressed here have not mentioned that the DSP Ms. Tahira invited ambassador rather delegates from US Ambassy in Islamabad.

We also agree that Ms. Tahira is considered to be a brave, honest and hardworking police officer….rest the political game around this whole matter is of course a matter of debate. Further, as you said ofcourse it is strange, why this issue has come up and an action has been taken after two long and lul months? This adds to suspicions around the already controvercial visit of US ambassy delegates to Gilgit-Baltistan.
