The Prime Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan visited Gilgit-Baltistan and affected areas of Attabad Disaster. He donated Rs. 100 million to the affectees along with 250 tents.
On the occasion talking to media Haider stated that “Gilgit-Baltistan is an integral part of Kashmir and both these regions have centuries-old historic and cultural ties which can’t be broken. It will be better if a joint setup is granted to both these regions. We will have no objection to it,”
Further he said that in order to re-open the lost contact between two regions his government is working on opening road link between Gilgit and Azad Kashmir Via Astore. He also stated that Kashmir Assembly and Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly should be abolished to form a joint assembly and both regions should be made more independent.
However, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan has shown a great rebuke to the above statement of the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and have stated that it is better to for the Kashmiri Prime Minister to concentrate on his internal issue without interfering in the affairs of Gilgit-Baltistan.
