ISLAMABAD, May 24: The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) has provided relief items worth $100,000 for people displaced by a lake in Hunza valley.
About 20,000 people are estimated to have been displaced by the lake formed near Attabad after a landslide blocked the Hunza river early this year.
The relief items, including 5,000 hygiene kits, 8,000 bathing soaps, 100,000 water purifying tablets and 50 tarpaulin sheets, have been handed over to authorities in affected areas.
Unicef has also provided emergency health kits to the health department officials in Gilgit-Baltistan to cater to the needs of displaced families for three months.
