On May 22 Water will overflow from the Hunza Lake- NDMA

Ganish Bridge has been closed for traffic ahead of the danger of outburst of the lake formed on Hunza River after Attabad Disaster. The lake according to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is 300 feet deep and 16 KM long, which in the event of outburst could generate 60 meter high wave. On daily basis the water level is increasing 1 meter each day. NDMA has said by May 22, 2010 the water from the lake will overflow and there is danger that from several places the dam would be burst as well.

According to the local administration 40,000 people would be affected from the disaster. Disaster management cells have been established in Hunza, Gilgit and NDMA Islamabad to monitor the situation.
