GB TIMES Report
It is a highly time testing situation that we people in Gilgit-Baltistan in general and particularly in Hunza are going through. Gojal a major part of Hunza and the largest Tehsil of Gilgit-Baltistan, is stranded with 25000 people for over 2 and half months. Still the concern authorities are not moved genuinely to take pragmatic steps in order to come up with a solution for the main cause of the problem, which is the blockage of Hunza River.
Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan, an MNA of Pakistan’s National Assembly from Lala Mussa in Punjab, in his recent visit to the area express words those are socially desirable with no practical implications. Such as, the Governor stressed to maintain status quo regarding the ongoing slow and infective pace of work and has also shown his satisfaction. He promised to upgrade the existing high school of Gulmit to Higher Secondary School; in fact this is not something he has granted rather according to the Education Policy of Government of Pakistan, all high schools in the country have been ordered to be upgraded to higher Secondary Schools, so this is a fake announcement. Second he declared Attabad and Gojal as calamity hit area but what are the benefits of it? Regarding provision of permanent medical staff and doctors for the 25000 people of Gojal at the Gulmit Health Center of Government, he did not sanction rather announced that on weekly biases medical camp would be arranged, which is not suitable for emergencies. Regarding job for unemployment he just uttered words without any concrete plan.
It is to be remembered that in the past high stated promises and estimates of the Governor Kaira were just fake and hallow words. The prime example of his fake promises could be quoted, when he said in January 2010 that the water of the dam would be released within five day but it is going to be more than two and half month nothing has happen. Shamelessly he reiterated that experts have shown their satisfaction over the current pace of work on removal of debris from the blockage, which is a white lie, and is against the report prepared by FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance Programme with the consultation of the team of Dr. David Kelly of Durhum University, UK.
It has also been reported that on questioning by a reporter of ‘Dawn, regarding the crisis situation and the poor role played by government of Pakistan, General ® Farooq the MD of National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and Mr. Kaira, the governor of Gilgit-Baltistan have tried to insult and threaten him, beside Mr. Wazir Biag the Speaker of GBLA told me to remain within his limits (Apnay Awqat may Rahoo).
