[News] All Parties Conference in Gilgit –Highlighting affects of Attabad Disaster on Upper Hunza (Gojal)

Gilgit (Tariq): An all Parties conference was organized at a local hotel in Gilgit with participation of all stakeholders of Gilgit-Baltistan. The conference has successfully communicated the current deplorable situation of the affectees of Upper Hunza (Gojal), Attabad, Sarat, and Salmanabad. The conference was attending by politicians, religious scholars, heads of NGOs, people of Gilgit-Baltistan and affected areas. The prominent participants were Hafeez Hafiz-ur-Rehman of PML -N, Mirza Hussain Member GBLA of PML-Q, Raziuddin Razi member GBLA and religious scholar, Nawaz Khan Naji of KNM and nationalist leader, representatives of secretary health, and representatives of FOCUS. In addition representatives of LSOs from Nagar valley hugely participated.
The participants expressed their concerns and sympathies with the people of Upper Hunza (Gojal), Attabad, Sarat and Salmanabad and have assured their full support to come out of the current time testing situation. The conference papers emphasized on fulfilling the following demand by Government of Pakistan (A) provision of health facilities, medicines and doctors in Gojal, (B) Declaring upper Hunza (Gojal) as calamity hit area, (C) relief for the fees of Students belonging to Gojal throughout the country in both private and public sector educational institutes, ( D) Immediate action for the release of water from the lake and (E) Transferring the charge of releasing the water of the lake from ineffective and unskilled FWO to international skilled and effective organizations.
For further action it was decided that on March 11, a press conference would be arranged in Gilgit, in which ultimatum would be given to govt. to take immediate action within one week to meet the demands made in the conference. In this regard letters would be written to each relevant department to fulfill their actions in their concern areas. Incase if the government would be failed to take the necessary action a Gilgit-Baltistan wide protest and agitation would be taken. In this regard support by all sections of society in Gilgit-Baltistan is being assured by the leaders and people.
It was highly disappointing that the government’s representatives Syed Mehdi Shah, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan; Mr. Wazir Baig, Speaker GBLA; Mr. Mutabiat Shah, Technocrat Member of GBLA have not attended the conference, although invitation letters were personally delivered to all of them.
