Islamabad (Kiramatullah): Subcommittee on Diamer-Bahasha Dam, headed by Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah agreed on the compensation of the land and royalty of the dam. It has been informed that it is agreed to pay per Kanal for commercial, agricultural and barren land Rs. 10,000,000 (ten lacs), 600,000 (Six lacs), and 100,000(one lacs). Beside this it was also agreed on to have 70% royalty to Gilgit-Baltistan Government and 30% to NWFP. These agreed points would be sent to the ministry of Water and Power which there after will be sent with its recommendations to Prime Minister for final approval by a parliamentary committee.
It is to remember that two people were being killed by Frontier Constabulary (FC) over a protest staged by the Committee For the Rights of Diamer Dame Affectees at Chilas. FC has an ill-reputation in Gilgit-Baltistan for its alleged partial and violent attitude with common people as well as with political leadership of the area. Beside that personnel of Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been blamed on the basis of evidence for smuggling of drugs and weapons from the tribal areas of Pakistan to Gilgit-Baltistan.
