[NEWS] MQM Hunza Met With the Party Leadership at Nine Zero to Disscuss the Gojal-Hunza Blockage Issue

Karachi (Meherban): Mr. Kamil Jan the MQM’s leader in Hunza met with the party leadership at Nine Zero with a delegation of Shiskat, Ayeenabad and Gulmit, Gojal-Hunza, to discuss the situation of Shishkat, Ayeenabad and Gulmit, Gojal, Hunza. They demanded to raise the existing deplorable situation of Shiskat, Ayeenbad and the rest of Gojal where almost 25000 people are trapped and locked due to the blockage of the KKH following the Atttabad’s disastrous land sliding.

Since January 4, in the lake formed on the Hunza River the water level is increasing at the rate of 2.6 feet daily as a result large parts of Ayeenabad and Shishkat have submerged in the water and the blockage is not expected to be open till March 30, it means more area will come under water. It is forecasted that by February 15, the Shishkat-Gulmit bridge will also submerge and in that case the people of Shishkat and Ayeenabad villages will be cut off from the rest of the world. However, having this alarming situation there are no actions taken by either government or NGOs on the ground to help the people of the area, neither the government have declared them as IDPs althouth they have lost their homes and lands and are forced to live with relatives and friends where families are living under heavy pressure.

The people in Gojal-Hunza need immediately medicines, paramedical staff, doctors, food, dresses for the cold weather and shelter. The MQM leadership has been asked to raise the issue in the parliament and declare the Gojal as calamity hit area. The MQM leadership at Nine Zero assured the delegation that all necessary steps would be taken and they have informed Altaf Hussain Qaid-e-Therik for his guidance on the issue.
