Gilgit (Ulfat Ara): Hafeez Hafiz-ur-Rehman, the president of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Gilgit-Baltistan Chapter stated that it is a good step that Syed Mehdi Shah the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan is meeting with the Kashmiri Leaders. We were in favor of closer contacts with the people of Kashmir, but it was the PPP, who wants to develop Gilgit-Baltistan as the 5th province of Pakistan. There are contradictions in the sayings and doings of PPP as at one hand Syed Mehdi Shah has stated on several occasion that there is no relationship of Kashmir with Gilgit-Baltistan but the PPP’s Prime Minister Syed Gilani is stating that Gilgit-Baltistan is part of Kashmir.
It is important that PPP should not give just emotional statements and work properly with honesty. If PPP wants to make Gilgit-Baltistan the fifth province of Pakistan than PPP’s government should immediately made amendments in the constitution of Pakistan and make Gilgit-Baltistan as its fifth province without considering that what will happen to the Kashmir.
He further stated that the Gilgit-Baltistan Council is like a sward on the neck of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. When the council will start to function the elected assembly will be just a rubber stamp. We should learn from the experience of the AJK Council which has become handicapped under the AJK Council. The AJK Assembly is going to start an anti AJK council, movement soon. So that before starting the functioning of Gilgit-Baltistan Council, immediate actions should be taken by the Gilgit-Baltistan government to remove the Council. Otherwise people will forget that the discrepancies of the Kahsmir and Northern Areas Affairs (KANA) under the discrepancies to be come through the Gilgit-Baltistan Council.
