[News] Kaira,Mehdi Shah chair emergent meeting on reconstruction of Hunza valley landslide areas

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25 (APP): Acting Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira and Chief Minster Syed Mehdi Shah jointly chaired a meeting to review the rehabilitation process of landslide victims of Hunza valley. The meeting was attended among others by senior officials of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), National Highway Authority (NHA), NESPAK, and Frontier Works Organization (FWO).
The meeting decided that Rs 100 million supplementary grant would be sought from the Prime Minister for reconstruction of the landslide-affected areas. The meeting also decided that immediate measures would be taken for overcoming shortage of diesel in the area.
The meeting also decided that immediate steps would be taken to avoid such landslides in future. The local administration which has conducted a survey on the raised level of river near Attabad, was directed to hold another survey in coming few days. NESPAK was also directed to hold a survey on the rise of water level in the river level. The Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan informed that the there was no shortage of eatable items in the landslide hit areas of Hunza valley.
Governor Kaira directed Chairman NHA to personally visit the area and coordinate with Chinese firm for early reopening of section of Karakorum Highway blocked after the landslide.
