Chillas (K2): According to the religious clerics of Chilaas, in presence of learned men selecting a woman as a governor is ‘Haram’ (illegitimate), in the light of the teaching of Islamic Law (Sharia). This ‘Fatwa’ (decree) has been given by the renown religious scholars of Chilas, Maulana Riaz Udin, Maulana Jan Sher, Maulana Abdul Majeed Shah, Maulana Zia Udin and Maulana Abdul Aziz. The, Mufti Aziz Ullah and Maulana Mohammad Wasal. The clerics belong to Suni Sect of Islam.
The reasons they stated are:
1) In Islam educating woman is for the purpose of becoming her crown of the home, it is not for the purpose of becoming her crown of the market, which is rather a shameful act for us.
2) It is not possible according to the teaching of Islam for a man to go in front of strange women (Namoharam Khatoon) and ask for her help.
Keeping these in view the wishes and desires of the people of the area a male governor should be appointed. They further said that some people are claiming to be Muslims but they are ignorant and illiterate regarding the teaching of Islam.
