[News] Victims of Attabad to be looked after in all terms : Kaira

Qamar Zaman Kaira, who is also Minister for Informartion, said he has an aerial view of the affected area and during his visit distributed compensation checks among the legal heirs of the deceased people and those who received injuries in the unfortunate incident that claimed 13 precious lives while six people went missing.
Mr. Karia said a Prime Minister Fund has been set up so that people who want to help their brothers in this hour of need could donate and contribute their share to help their brethren in need.
He spoke well of the Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah who donated Rs.7 million in the fund.
The Governor also commended effort of GB administration and other organizations for their quick response after the tragedy and providing adequate relief to the victims.
“There would be no leniency with regard to rehabilitation of affected people and it is sheer choice of them what sort of rehabilitation they cherish whether they want built houses or cash for construction of houses at their own end,” the Governor said..
Mr. Karia said even a plan for establishment of a town specific for the affected people has also been envisaged.
He said a team of senior Revenue Department has been especially deputed across the blockade of Karakruam Highway to gather accurate and authentic information about the area so as to promptly address problems.
The Governor assured that people living in upper part of Hunza would not face any problem and taking good care of them by providing them health facilities.
He said a channel is being planned to release raising water from the lake following huge boulder fell in Hunza River and blocked its flow, posing serious threat to low adjoining localities like Ainabad whose population is being evacuated.
The Governor further informed the diesel for stuck up vehicles across the blockage of road in upper Hunza was being transported through helicopters and assured that very shortly the communication between upper Hunza and rest of the country would be restored. Till its restoration, the people of the upper area would be looked after in all terms, he added.
Answering a question, he said a survey of the hazardous areas of GB would be conducted through concerned organizations so as to avoid tragedy like Attabad in future.
The Governor also mentioned of GB Investment Conference and Exhibition in Lahore to woo investment in this area which is rich in natural resources and the government is determined to explore these resources for prosperity and development.
Replying to a question, Mr. Kaira said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believes in women emancipation and that is why it has decided to appoint a woman governor in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He informed media that a group of 45 GB Scouts would be given
training by the NDMA experts so as to meet any emergency in future.
Earlier, Qamar Zaman Kaira visited Altit, Ali Abad area of Hunza where a relief camp has been se-up to ensure shelter and medical facilities for the victims.
Addressing a public meeting there, he appreciated the generosity of people of the area for accommodating their near and dear ones in their own houses.
He asked the Chief Secretary GB, to provide ration or cash to the families living with their relatives.
The Minister said NHA, FCNA and China would jointly start work to remove debris of land slide that blocked the road and made the people of upper Hunza stuck.
