SKARDU, Nov 4: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Mian Nawaz Sharif will visit Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday to address public meetings at seven different places in the region.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, PML-N spokesman Siddiqul Farooq said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other party leaders would accompany Nawaz Sharif.

He hoped that PML-N would form government in Gilgit-Baltistan after winning the forthcoming elections. PML-N would give constitutional rights to the people of the region, he added.

He said that Nawaz Sharif was taking keen interest in the socio-economic development of Gilgit-Baltistan. “He wanted to develop tourism, minerals, agriculture, education, health and energy sectors of the region,” Mr Farooq added.

He said that PML-N gave the right of legislation to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in 1999. “We want implementation of law and constitution,” he said, adding that constitution was like life saving water for democracy.

“It has been noticed that some bureaucrats of the region are trying to favour their relatives, who are candidates of PPP, it means that they are destroying democracy,” he said. He warned that if any bureaucrat found involved in rigging PML would never forgive him.

He urged people of various parties to maintain peace, harmony and brotherhood in the region and run their election campaigns peacefully.

Mr Farooq condemned violence against one of their candidates and warned that such incidents would not be tolerated in future. He alleged that Benazir Income Support Fund was being used for election campaigns. courtesy
