Kachura Lake – Skardu
Baltistan is a fabulously beautiful elevated place in the Karakoram mountain range of Gilgit-Baltistan. The region lies to the south of K2, the world’s second highest mountain (8,611 m/28,2161 ft); the average elevation is 3,350 m/11,000 ft. Located in North East of Gilgit, western Ladakh. It contains the upper reaches of the Indus River. It is the home of Balti Muslims.
The chief town is Skardu, but Ghyari is of greater significance to Muslims as the site of a mosque built by Sayyid Ali Hamadani, a Persian who brought the Shiah Muslim religion to Baltisatn in the 14th century.
Baltistan is one of the most beautiful regions in the world visited by thousands of admirers from all over the world, some to satisfy their instinctive adventurous mood of mountaineering and some to enjoy the natural beauty of the valleys, peaceful environment and fresh atmosphere.
People of Baltistan (Balti) are very peaceful, hospitable and love to live communal life with mutually supporting socio-economic mechanism of living.
