[News] Prime Minister Yosuf Raza Gilani in Gilgit-Baltistan Today

Prime Minister of Pakistan Syed Yousf Raza Gilani today will be in Gilgit on his first day of two days visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, under high security alert due to the recent violence of which took four lives as a result of target killing.

The visit was scheduled before Eid but was postponed till now for unknown reasons. During this visit PM is expected to announce a development programme of 11 billion PKR, for Gilgit-Baltistan and will try to win hearts and minds of the people after recently announced reforms package for Gilgit-Baltistan, which has met with mixed responses in the area.

In addition he would also formally announce the formation of additional districts in Gilgit-Baltistan, which includes Hunza-Nagar Districts, which is currently on a hot pot due to continuous protest in Hunza for an additional seat in Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA). People of Hunza are also expected the announcement of additional seat which has moved people of Hunza from one corner of Pakistan at Kunjrab, Hunza to the other at Karachi.

PM is expected to talk about controversial dame projects in the Gilgit-Baltistan, such as Diamer-Basha Dame for which World Bank has denied to provide loan considering it a controversial project. At the same time he would emphasise on exploration of mineral in the area.

Prime Minister Yousf Raza Gilani is a one of a few very close companion of slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto who is part of the existing PPP government in Islamabad with president Asif Ali Zardari, otherwise most of the Benazir’s associates are either pushed to the walls or marginalized.
