[News] PM to announce Gilgit-Baltistan package after Eid

SKARDU, Sep 18 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani will announce economic package for Gilgit-Baltistan after Eid-ul-Fitr.This was stated by Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira while addressing a big gathering here after inaugurating the office of new Commissioner of Baltistan Division.He said that empowerment and self governance order, 2009 is a historic step taken by the present PPP government.

 He said that all administrative, financial, democratic, judicial and developmental powers are shifted to the people of the area according to their wishes. 

“We have fulfilled the promises of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto,” he said.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said, there are potential of hydel generation, tourism, minerals and communication and “we will divert our attention towards these sectors.”

He said, some 540 SAP schools would be handed over to NEF under an agreement. He added that unemployed and educated youth would be made skilled persons under BISP. 

He said that Police in these areas would be strengthened and new recruitment would be made to further maintain peace and tranquility in the area.

Kaira said this year rupees ten billion would be spent on PSDP schemes to bring speedy progress for the people of these areas.

He urged the people to elect best people in the upcoming elections.Earlier, the Governor was given warm welcome upon  his arrival.

On the occasion, Syed Mehdi Shah President PPP Gilgit and Baltistan thanked the President, PM, Governor and Chief Secretary for granting new package for the people of GB. source
